Kyutoshin

Kyutoshin, Moxa on the handle of the needle. This method began in Japan around 1930. In Chinese they call it the Wenjiu needle method.

Kyutoshin utilizes the burning of balls of moxa on the handle of the needle to apply heat stimulation. This provides radiant heat to the area around the needle, below the ball of moxa, a deeper penetration of heat along the needle shaft into the body. The effects are obtained from the radiant heat of the burning moxa.

This method is using semi-pure moxa, called wakakusa. Semi-pure moxa burns a little more intensely and delivers the sensation of warmth better than pure moxa.
